SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO, March 15, 2019: The month of May 2019 has been designated "Sculpture Month" on Santa Fe's historic Canyon Road by the Canyon Road Merchants Association with a month of events focused on the medium, culminating in gallery sculpture and garden tours on Memorial Day weekend, May 25-26, 2019. The 26 participating galleries are: Acosta Strong Fine Art, Art House - Thoma Foundation, Barbara Meikle Fine Art, Canyon Road Contemporary, Convergence Gallery, Dominique Boisjoli Fine Art, Freeman Gallery, Gallery 901, GF Contemporary, Globe Fine Art, GVG Contemporary, Hunter-Kirkland Contemporary, James Roybal Fine Art, La Mesa of Santa Fe, Luca Decor, Manitou Galleries - Canyon Road, Mark White Fine Art, New Concept Gallery, Owen Contemporary, Pippin Contemporary, Romancing the Stone, Sage Creek Gallery, Selby Fleetwood Gallery, Ventana Fine Art, ViVO Contemporary, and Wiford Gallery.

Over the Memorial Day weekend, galleries will present various sculpture-focused programs and presentations including demonstrations and discussions by sculptors about processes, developing design ideas for large-scale sculpture in site-specific settings, finishes, the lost wax process and more. During the same weekend, visitors will have the opportunity to stroll through the many beautiful sculpture gardens of participating galleries.

Canyon Road, once a rural neighborhood of small farms scattered along an old Indian trail prior to the founding of Santa Fe in 1610, has evolved into a walkable art destination. More than 75 galleries occupy a mere half mile and offer work ranging from traditional realism and impressionism, to abstraction, expressionism, and contemporary realism. In addition to painting and sculpture, many galleries represent glass, ceramic, jewelry, and fiber artists, as well as historic and contemporary Native arts of the southwest.

The Canyon Road Merchants Association will sponsor four major events in 2019. In addition to Sculpture Month, May 10-11, is the 7th Annual Canyon Road Spring Art Festival, October 18-19, is the 12th Annual Canyon Road Paint/Sculpt Out and December 13, is the 3rd Annual Canyon Road Block to Block pARTy.
