Limited Warranty
Our Warranty
Christopher Thomson Ironworks takes pride in creating handcrafted, heirloom-quality ironwork designed to provide many years of enjoyment.
We warrant that each piece is free from defects in workmanship and materials at the time of delivery, as detailed below.
Christopher Thomson Ironworks is a DBA of River Inc.
Warranty Period
Structural ironwork: Christopher Thomson Ironworks warrants the structural integrity and workmanship of the forged iron or steel structure — including welds, joints, and base materials — for the lifetime of the piece, provided the piece has received normal use and reasonable care. This covers workmanship defects only; it does not cover damage from impact, dropping, misuse, improper handling, or normal wear (see "What This Warranty Does Not Cover" below).
Electrical components: Sockets, wiring, and switches are warranted against defects for one (1) year from the date of delivery or installation. All electrical components are UL Listed.
Finishes and coatings: Powder coating, patina, and hand-applied finishes are warranted against defects for one (1) year from the date of delivery or installation. Natural changes due to weather and time are expected and not considered defects (see "Finishes and Natural Weathering" below).
Shades and soft materials: Linen, sheepskin, and other fabric shades are not covered under this warranty beyond confirming the item arrived free of workmanship defect at delivery.
What This Warranty Covers
During the applicable warranty period, we will, at our discretion, repair or replace the affected portion of the work when a defect is determined to be the result of:
- Defective materials supplied by Christopher Thomson Ironworks
- Structural failure resulting from faulty workmanship
- Weld or fabrication defects that were present at the time of delivery or installation
- Premature failure of a finish resulting from improper application by Christopher Thomson Ironworks
Repair or replacement under this warranty will be performed at no charge for the covered defect.
What This Warranty Does Not Cover
This warranty does not cover damage or deterioration resulting from:
- Normal wear and tear
- Scratches, dents, abrasions, or impact
- Damage or failure resulting from improper installation, mounting, handling, storage, or transportation carried out by any party other than Christopher Thomson Ironworks
- Misuse, neglect, vandalism, accidents, or acts of nature
- Alterations, modifications, repairs, or refinishing performed by anyone other than Christopher Thomson Ironworks
- Exposure to unusual or corrosive environments, including saltwater, de-icing chemicals, fertilizers, animal waste, or industrial pollutants
- Rust, oxidation, patina, fading, discoloration, or other natural changes associated with exposure to weather and the outdoor environment
- Failure to follow recommended care instructions
- Damage that occurs during shipping (see "Shipping and Freight Damage" below)
- Dissatisfaction with design choices, dimensions, or finishes approved prior to fabrication on custom or commissioned work (see "Custom and Commissioned Work" below)
- Fit, performance, or safety of glass, wood, stone, or other tabletop materials sourced separately by the purchaser (see "Table Tops and Other Purchaser-Sourced Materials" below)
Finishes and Natural Weathering
Iron and steel are natural materials and may change in appearance over time, particularly when exposed to sunlight, moisture, temperature changes, and other outdoor conditions.
Powder-coated finishes: Powder coating provides a durable protective finish but is not permanent. Over time, exposure to ultraviolet light, moisture, weather, and physical contact may result in fading, chalking, scratching, or other changes in appearance. Such changes are considered normal aging and are not covered by this warranty.
Hand-finished, painted, patinated, or raw steel surfaces: Variations in color, texture, patina, oxidation, and surface appearance are inherent characteristics of these finishes and are not considered defects.
Outdoor Installation
For outdoor ironwork, regular inspection is recommended. The owner is responsible for caring for the piece according to the care instructions provided by Christopher Thomson Ironworks.
Where applicable, drainage, ventilation, and protection from standing water should be maintained to minimize corrosion.
Custom and Commissioned Work
For custom or commissioned work, this warranty covers defects in the execution of the design as approved by the customer. It does not cover dissatisfaction with design choices, dimensions, or finishes that were approved prior to fabrication.
Table Tops and Other Purchaser-Sourced Materials
Many of our table bases are sold without a tabletop. Glass, wood, stone, and other tabletop materials are sourced separately by the purchaser. Christopher Thomson Ironworks may suggest a recommended thickness or specification for glass or other tabletop materials, but is not responsible for the fit, performance, or safety of tabletops or other materials sourced from a third-party provider. Any agreement regarding tabletop specifications is between the purchaser and their chosen provider.
Shipping and Freight Damage
Damage that occurs during shipping is not covered under this warranty. If your item arrives damaged, contact Christopher Thomson Ironworks to initiate a shipping claim. We will assist you in filing a claim with the shipping carrier.
Making a Warranty Claim
To make a warranty claim, contact Christopher Thomson Ironworks and provide:
- Invoice number, order number, sidemark, or project name — whichever is available
- Product name
- A description of the issue
- Photographs showing the affected area
If none of the above is available, Christopher Thomson Ironworks will work with the owner to locate the original sale record using any other information provided (such as an order confirmation email or approximate purchase date).
Christopher Thomson Ironworks may request an inspection of the work before determining whether the issue is covered by this warranty.
If the problem is determined to be covered, Christopher Thomson Ironworks will determine the appropriate remedy, which may include repair, refinishing, or replacement of the affected component.
Other Terms
This warranty is the only warranty Christopher Thomson Ironworks provides. We do not make any other promises or guarantees, written or implied, beyond what is stated here. Any claim under this warranty must be made within the applicable warranty period stated above; claims made after that period will not be honored.
Christopher Thomson Ironworks shall not be responsible for incidental, consequential, or indirect damages arising from the use, installation, or failure of the work, to the extent permitted by law.
This warranty is provided to the original purchaser, to the client for whom the piece was purchased (in the case of a purchase made by a design professional, contractor, or other trade buyer), and to any heir who inherits the piece. Christopher Thomson Ironworks need not have any record of the client's or heir's identity for this warranty to apply — to process a claim, the owner need only provide the order number, sidemark, project name, or purchase details sufficient for Christopher Thomson Ironworks to locate the original sale record. This warranty is not transferable to a subsequent buyer in the event of a resale, gift, or other transfer outside of inheritance.
This warranty is governed by the laws of the State of New Mexico.
